Sometimes you need to copy a card from one board to another. It could be a dependency, an idea or something you just need to get done. With Blossom, you can now copy cards (and all of their contents) across project boards.

Copying Cards Part 1

To copy a card to another project board, first open the card, then click the triple dots in the top right corner, click ‘Copy this Card’ and select which project board you want to copy it to. All of your card’s details will transfer across to the other board, automatically.

Card Copying Part 2

Here are some ways you can make card copying work for your team:

  • Product teams: Move cards from your idea collection board to your development board when they’re ready to be worked on.
  • Agencies: Have one board for your clients and another for your internal work.
  • Software teams: If a released feature has a bug, copy across this feature to a bug board to maintain context.
  • Personal kanban: Copy personal tasks over to a team board when you need your team’s help.

If a different workflow works for your team, we’d love to know in the comments below!

Agile Project Management meets team chat of the 21st century.

Seamless team communication is key to building great products. Slack is designed with simplicity and ease of use in mind to make your team communication challenges a thing of the past. Whether your team is co-located or distributed around the world Slack has you covered.

At Blossom we live and breathe these qualities as well so we weren’t surprised that a lot of our customers were already using Slack in their software development teams. That’s why we were super excited when we set out to design our integration for Slack.

What is Slack?

Slack is a simple yet powerful real-time group chat built for teams of the 21st century.

First of all Slack is there for you wherever you are. It works great in situations when you are co-located as well as when you are distributed over many continents and time zones.

Slack also comes with super powerful search functionality. Slack’s universal search helps you to find past discussions and decisions that were made because it understands the context of whole conversations, not only single messages. This feature is almost invisible but incredibly valuable when you really need to find that conversation from a few months back that you are looking for.

On top of that Slack is indexing the files you share. This means that you can not only search through conversations but also deep into the files you were talking about.

There are a lot of super useful little big details and easter eggs in Slack. For example you can use @mentions that allow you to notify a certain person or a group of people.

If you are sending your fair share of colour hex codes around like we do you will love that Slack automatically displays a small coloured sample of it inline.

Slack also has great support for emoji icons. It even allows you to choose whether you prefer Apple, Google or Twitter style emojis. If you‘re a fan of good old plain text on the other hand Slack has you covered as well.

Migrating to Slack is super seamless. You can simply import your previous conversations from tools like HipChat, Flowdock and Campfire. On top of that you get instant access to Slack’s powerful universal search as if you had used Slack from the beginning.

These features alone make Slack a super valuable tool for any team. But where Slack really shines are its integrations with other products.

How does Slack work with Blossom?

Similar to our integrations with Atlassian’s HipChat and Rally’s Flowdock we send the most important activities from your Blossom projects over to Slack.

Once connected we will send a message to your channel every time something interesting happens in your project. The usual notifications that will show up in your Slack channel are things like cards that got created, blocked or moved, screenshots you’ve uploaded as well as comments that you’ve posted.

We’ve made a brief video that shows some examples how our integration works in the day to day.

How to connect your Blossom Project to Slack

Setting everything up only takes a few seconds. Just head over to your Blossom project settings and select Slack.

This will take you to the setup screen where you just need to fill in your Slack Webhook URL and click on the button to connect Blossom to your Slack channel.

That’s pretty much it. Your Blossom project is now connected to Slack and you should have received a connection success message in your Slack channel.

Filter Notifications

If you’d like to filter certain notifications from being sent to Slack, press the “View Preferences” button to make adjustments.

Getting your Slack Webhook URL

To find your Slack Webhook URL go to your Slack Channel, click the down-arrow next to the channel name and click “Add a service integration …” from the popover.

Now select Blossom from the Slack integrations page.

Now you only need to select the Slack Channel that you want Blossom to post notifications into.

Once you’ve clicked the “Add Blossom Integration” button you will see a green “New integration added!” success message. On the same page, copy your Slack Webhook URL and paste it into the settings screen in your Blossom project.

Group chat plays an essential role in the day of many product teams. Especially for distributed teams it often builds the backbone for communication. That’s why we set out to build the best HipChat integration for product teams out there. Here is what we came up with.

What is HipChat?

HipChat is a simple group chat & instant messaging service for teams.

One of the things that makes HipChat really special is its great cross platform support. Whether your team members use Macs, Chromebooks, Android, iPhones, iPads or Linux you will find a HipChat client for every major platform out there.

HipChat is supported on every major platform

HipChat allows you to easily upload and share files via drag & drop. This is a great way to get quick feedback on design mockups and screenshots.

The service also offers a huge set of over 150 emoticons to add fun and depth to conversations. You can even upload your own emoticons as well.

These features alone make HipChat a valuable tool for product teams but where the service really shines are its integrations with other products.

How does HipChat work with Blossom

Since we are happy HipChat customers ourselves we’ve put a lot of thought into how an ideal integration between Blossom and HipChat would look like.

Here is what we came up with. You can now connect individual Blossom projects to HipChat rooms. Once connected we will send a message to your team’s group chat every time something interesting happens in your project.

HipChat Notifications

This way you will get informed about useful things like added comments, file attachments, completion of checklist items and card movements.

If you click on the link from a HipChat message it will lead you directly to the card in your Blossom project.

Keeping your Team in the Loop

HipChat will even notify you when important events happen. For example if a feature you are working on is finished and ready to be deployed you can just mark the card as ready to let everyone know.

HipChat Notification if Blossom Card is marked as ready

Also whenever someone in your team encounters a problem that is blocking progress on a feature just mark the card as blocked to let your team know about it.

HipChat Notification if Blossom Card is marked as blocked

Last but not least when you are ready to celebrate because you’ve moved a card to the party stage an emoji turtle joins the party.

HipChat Notification about Blossom Card Movement to the last Stage

This is a great way to stay in the loop even when you are on the go. Let’s take a look at how to set it all up.

How to connect your Blossom Project to HipChat

Just open the settings drop down in the Blossom project which you want to connect to your HipChat room.

HipChat Notification Setting in Blossom

Fill in your HipChat auth token and the HipChat room name or ID that you want to connect to.
If you are a HipChat group admin you can create a notification auth token at http://hipchat.com/admin/api.

Finally connect your project to HipChat and you are good to go. You will see a confirmation message posted to your room soon afterwards.
